Here are a couple hand-fulls of new oil paintings! The Annual Phippen Museum Western Art Show adn Sale is coming up at the end of May and I find the need to create new paintings just for this show. For the first time ever, I signed up to do the Quick Draw event. This is an exciting event where artists have 60 minutes to complete a painting with an audience watching, followed immediatly by a live auction to benefit the musuem. This event brings a lot of buzz to the art show! Just like the quick draw cowboys of the wild west, I need to practice to speed up my reaction time. Just today, I completed a 9×12 oil in 60 minutes. I still need to be faster, it’s different when painting in front of a crowd and the pressure is more intense. Here are the new oils:
“West Fork’s Ballad” 10×16 palette knife |
“Sunset from Yavapai Point” 12×17, palette knife and brush combo |
“Brins Mesa Shadows” 12×17 |
“From Bright Angel Trail” 12×17 oil |
“Winter’s Fading Light” 5×7 |
“Winter Sunrise at Bright Angel” 12×17 palette knife |
“Winter’s Light” 9×12 |
“Winter at Shoshone Point” 5×7 |

“Winter’s Grand Sunrise” 5×7 |
