Something about our Autumn in Arizona this year is making for an exciting season. Perhaps, our wet summer rains (the monsoons) assisted in this or perhaps this extended pleasant weather has kept the leaves hanging on. Whatever the reason, I was ready to get a dose of gold. It is late October when we recently took a short jaunt from downtown Prescott in search of Fall color. This little grove of aspens grows along Aspen Creek, no huge surprise. We arrived in the middle of the afternoon with the sun lowering in the sky and igniting the yellow leaves in a glow of gold clouds. On our drive out on Copper Basin Road, we were given a preview of oak trees turning yellow and orange. Yet, as we rounded a bend and caught a glimpse of the golden glow of aspens, we were presented with a gift of Autumn! At first, we scampered down to the first grove from the road, hopping over a natural log bridge across Aspen Creek. Looking up, the trees towered overhead wearing a hats of yellow. We continued exploring and found a short path through another area of the grove populated with young growth and vibrant yellow hues. We delighted in the fact that even though we missed seeing the aspens in Flagstaff this fall, we had a chance to enjoy them close to home!
